Speaking of Horses

A woman in the congregation where I used to work, First Unitarian Universalist Society of Middleboro, works with horses and humans in a variety of creative ways via the Korben School of Holistic Horsemanship. She has also written a great book about horses, particularly for the younger crowd, called Speaking of Horses. She mentioned her work to me, and I wanted to point it out in case anyone was interested. Being a cat person myself, I am so aware of the ways that animals can nurture us and bring us joy. I think that Chris (Korben), the author of the book, is especially great at bringing this out with horses and their human companions. You can read more about Chris’s book Speaking of Horses here at www.speakingofhorses.net.

Susan Harris, an author, international instructor and artist notes that “Speaking of Horses is a delightful introduction to the world of horses and ponies. It is a unique and fun way to learn about different breeds of horses and ponies, their colors and markings, tack equipment, and much more. Chris Korben, along with artist Elizabeth Robinson, has put the basics that every horse lover should know into a unique and fun book.” Another reader writes that “This book would be fun for 4-H or Pony Club members, horseback riding camps, riding lesson programs, or for any horse loving person who wants to know all about horses. Parents, riding instructors and 4-H leaders will be glad that it teaches correct and safe horsemanship along with a wealth of activities. For children, it’s a visual, interactive way of learning that makes it clear and easy to understand as well as fun. Whether you’re a parent, an instructor or a person who loves horses, I hope you’ll enjoy Speaking of Horses as much as I do.”
