Do you think the idea that God can write your love story comes from the belief that God has the perfect mate for each of us? The whole idea that if you prayed hard enough and "claimed" that promise. God will send that perfect mate in your life is something I used to struggle with when I was single. To me it seems like a trying to maniuplate or tell God what to do.

Thanks for all the comments, everyone. Yes, I did see that they are the couple who wrote the book about God writing their love story. I'm not so much against the idea that God can write your love story, if you like to think of it like that, or that a particular version of masculinity is appealing to certain people, but that this is how it is for all people and this is how it SHOULD be. Sigh.

Reminds me of a book we had to read in my Christianity & Sexuality class. Can't remember the name of the book, just that it wasn't as good as another book we had to read. The other book was "Beyond Sex Roles" by Gilbert Belizian (can't spell the guys name). He put his all of his opinions in the back of the book in an effort to present a fair discussion in the book.

Anyway, that is way off topic. You have an interesting blog.

I like how the "love story" on their web site is juxtaposed to a photo of their crotches.

The connotations of the first line of the book are so intrinsically negative, I'm not sure I'd believe it even presented in jest. As it stands, the premise of the book itself is ridiculous.

Oh, the Ludys! I had forgotten about them from my evangelical days. Check out their website if you want more of that... They are pretty popular with college kids in the evangelical circles who want god to write their love story...

I wanted to hope that this title was supposed to be a bit ironic, so I clicked through to the Amazon page. The Book Description section started off well enough. I agree that modern ideals of masculinity are a bit limited and that some "revisioning" would be a good thing (think some of the ideals of the "men's movement" 10-15 years ago). Unfortunately, it heads down the conservative Christian path in a major hurry, where the generalizations just piled up on top of each other. Ah well. Keep looking I guess.

I like your blog. Keep it up!
