Cuddle Parties
I saw this promoted on a UU listserve and it sounds like my worst nightmare. Touching people I don’t know and probably having to talk to them as well.

“What happens at a Cuddle Party? f…. sign in, and change into pajamas …”
Oh, really NOT my scene.

But wait! I can be a FACILITATOR for only $495. Now that sounds like a waste of money.

There have been “cuddle puddles” at UU cons that I’ve attended. I even participated in one or two, but always on the edge of the puddle, and next to people I felt comfortable with (my friends). It was nice. They make sense, within a context. The last half dozen cuddle puddles I’ve seen I walked past because the conversation didn’t interest me, or there was someone really stinky in the puddle.

I think that they do have their place and can be particularly healing/helpful for people who come from families where affection isn’t a normal part of life. I don’t think they are super-bad, so much as I would really hate to go to one myself. As a teenager, dying to explore touch and love, and connection, I think I would have been more into it. With people I knew - not strangers. I also think it would be hard to go to one of these things if you were afraid no one would want to cuddle with you. And even worse if they really didn’t. Ugg. This reminds me of one of my favorite favorite reasons for being in a long-term relationship - not having to consider things like cuddle parties, bars, etc. to meet people. Dating is hell for introverts! (I think.)
